FAQs

Doyle Roof Masters

  • Do you give free estimates?

Generally, we provide free estimates. However, there may be charges for jobs that require special equipment or are located outside our usual service area, such as those involving steep roofs. These additional costs cover the extra time or access needed.
  • Can I get an estimate over the phone? Without someone actually getting on my roof?

We don't recommend phone estimates as they're often inaccurate due to numerous variables. While satellite or drone images can provide replacement bids, they don't show all roof details. For repairs and maintenance, an on-site inspection is necessary for precise recommendations. Our estimates are free, and our estimators won't pressure you to accept our advice or bids.
  • Do I need to be there?

We strongly advise meeting our estimator in person or via video chat. Replacing your roof is a significant investment, and it's about more than just finding the lowest price. You'll want to trust the company to support you throughout your roof's lifespan. We've been in business since 1974, offering peace of mind that we'll be available for your future roofing needs. For leak issues, it's crucial that you're present to show our representative where you've noticed the leak inside your home. A thorough interior inspection helps us pinpoint the corresponding area on the roof, ensuring we address all potential leak sources in our repair recommendations.
  • What can I do to minimize leak damage?

To reduce water damage, you can create small holes in the sheetrock where the leak is occurring. Use a small screwdriver, ice pick, or knife to allow water to pass through, preventing it from soaking in. Only make holes where water is actively coming through, not just where there are stains. Exercise caution to avoid areas near electrical lines or lights. We don't recommend this method for wood or plaster ceilings.
  • My roof holds water. What are my options?

The solution depends on the amount of standing water, as excessive weight can be hazardous. Often, water can be drained by installing canales or roof drains. A more costly option involves sloping the roof slightly to facilitate drainage, which would require replacing roofing materials. In Albuquerque Metro and East Mountains, flat roofs are common, and many older roofs can benefit from these techniques. The materials used in flat roofs are designed to withstand local heat and sun conditions.
  • How long do roofs last?

Asphalt shingle roofs come with factory ratings of 20, 30, 40, and 50 years. However, due to intense UV exposure in our area, they may begin to deteriorate a few years earlier. Lighter colors typically have a longer lifespan. Tar and gravel (built-up fiberglass) roofs usually last between 17 and 25 years with proper maintenance and regular cleaning. Factors like sun exposure, decaying leaves or pine needles, and lack of maintenance can significantly reduce your roof's longevity.
  • What is the difference between a manufacturer's warranty and a labor warranty?

Manufacturer warranties provide estimated lifespans for various roofing materials under typical weather conditions. In contrast, roofing contractors offer warranties that guarantee the quality of their workmanship.
  • Can roofs be installed any time of the year?

Yes, roofing can be done year-round in Albuquerque Metro and East Mountains due to our moderate climate. However, we don't install roofs during active rain or snow, or when wind speeds exceed 25 miles per hour.
  • Which should I replace first, my stucco or my roof?

In most cases, it's preferable to replace the roof first, followed by the stucco, to prevent damage to new stucco. However, if the existing stucco is severely aged and cracked, it may need replacement to provide a solid surface for adhering the new roofing material.
  • Is it a good idea to replace my air conditioner at the same time the roof is being replaced?

Yes. This way, the new roof won’t be compromised by changing out the air conditioner later. It will also save you money by only having to pay labor to move the unit one time.
  • How often should we have our roof checked?

Once every year or two, the roof should be checked to make sure all sealants are intact, canales and drains are free of debris, and so on.
  • How often should we expect to have maintenance done?

You should get maintenance once every two or three years on areas with sealants. Roofs should always be kept free of organic debris. This varies depending on where you live, the number and type of trees you have, and the type of roof you have.
  • How often should I have maintenance work done on my roof?

You should have your roof checked every year. Annual inspections are free on roofs that Doyle Roof Master installs. On average, most roofs will require some minor sealing to the walls and penetrations every two years or so. It is by far less expensive to do seasonal maintenance on your roof than to prematurely replace your roof.
  • Is there anything I can do to prolong the life of my roof?

Cleaning gutters of leaves and keeping branches off your roof will help. Doyle Roof Masters has years of experience maintaining roofs and will be happy to advise you on what you can do.
  • What questions should I ask before hiring a roofing contractor?

When considering a roofing contractor, be sure to ask if they are licensed and insured. You’ll also want to know about any warranties they offer. Then, get into their expertise. Ask them what roof materials are best for your roof. Then, ask what assurance you have that they are making the right recommendation. Always check for references before hiring a roofing contractor.
